WIDE Center's Use of Plone

The WIDE Research Center selected plone as its Content Management System because it is user-friendly and open source. Some of the other highlights of plone that made it the choice for the WIDE Center Directors, are as follows:


  • Plone is 508 compliant, works with all browsers, and is in conformance with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, level Double-A. Plone also conforms to XHTML and CSS standards.

  • Plone is an international application, containing over 50 language translations and management tools for multi-language content.

  • Plone facilitates collaborative editing and publishing.

  • Plone is easy to install and manage.

  • Plone has a large, active community that supports it.

  • The Plone Foundation has as one of its goals, the desire to keep the playing field level among plone users. Plus, the Plone Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation.

  • Plone is built on Zope, an object oriented server application which uses Python as its language.
